Coffee Sanctuary
Welcome to my personal coffee sanctuary. This is a list of all the coffee shops that I went to, so that I can check if there’s a nice coffee shop in town when travelling.
It’s similar to all those “Awesome something” lists, but it’s based on my personal experience with coffee shops.
If you have any proposals of coffee shops that I should visit, please create an issue for it. Should you find any mistakes regarding websites, addresses, or anything related to one of the coffee shops listed here, feel free to create a pull request. :-)
Bamberg
7Hills Coffee Roasters
I met Christian at a latte art workshop in 2016 (or 2017). It’s his “fault” that I dove deeper into the whole espresso-based coffee thing.
I attended another workshop last year (2023), where the two of us were analysing the results of various tools and grinders with a refractometer. Amazing!
I’ve never been to the cafe itself (the one time I was in Bamberg, they were closed!), but both Daniel and Christian are super kind and they know their craft. 100% recommendation!
Berlin
The Barn
I visited several of the cafés and I also had a coffee subscription for pour-over coffee with them; most of the coffees were great.
They do have several (9, I believe) shops in Berlin.
- Coffee: self-roasted. Great coffee beans for both pour over and espresso-based drinks.
- Food: amazing. Everything I had (mostly sweet stuff) was great!

Father Carpenter
- Address: Münzstraße 21, 10178 Berlin (Google Maps, Apple Maps)
- Coffee: self-roasted. I only tried espresso-based drinks. Espresso was a bit too sour for my taste, but Cappuccino and Flat White tasted amazing.
- Food: super tasty. Recommendations are the vegan banana bread and the “Avocado”, sour-dough toast with several toppings.

Dresden
Moka Café
- Address: Schützengasse 2, 01067 Dresden (Google Maps, Apple Maps)
- Coffee: not self-roasted. When I was there, they had coffee from The Barn (see above) and Manhattan Coffee Roasters. Nevertheless, it was prepared well and tasted great.
- Food: Amazing self made granola and cookies.

Düsseldorf
Copenhagen Coffee Lab
- Addresses:
- Coffee: self-roasted. Very good flat white, even the decaf was tasty (which was a first).
- Food: All the food, both sweet and regular things, are incredible. I strongly recommend the cheese cake with raspberries.

Hamburg
Elbgold
They have four cafés in Hamburg, but I only visited two so far.
- Address: Lagerstraße 34c, 20357 Hamburg (Google Maps, Apple Maps) and Schauenburgerstraße 50, 20095 Hamburg (Google Maps, Apple Maps)
- Coffee: self-roasted. Very tasty pour-over coffees, I always take some beans home with me. Espresso-based drinks are also very nice. If you like Ethiopian coffee, give BOMBE a try.
- Food: Apparently they have the best franzbrötchen of Germany, so you should try one.

Marshall Street
Ingolstadt
District V
- Address: Donaustraße 3, 85049 Ingolstadt (Google Maps, Apple Maps)

Karlsruhe
Winter – Café
Attention, they are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays!
- Address: Adlerstraße 32, 76133 Karlsruhe
- Coffee: They had coffee from Jb Kaffee and two other roasteries when I was there. The staff is super kind and very passionate about coffee, every drink is prepared with love and care. Great experience.

Mannheim
Café Brue
Nuremberg
Machhörndl
Ribe (Denmark)
- Adress: Mellemdammen 18, 6760 Ribe, Danmark (Google Maps, Apple Maps)
- Coffee: Roasted by La Cabra. It’s superb, one of the best coffees I had in a long time (or ever?).
I immediately bought a pack of the coffee beans they served, asked for the beans right out of the grinder.
- Food: Some of the best cakes I’ve ever eaten. Amazing. 100% self-made, even with their own fruits from their garden.

Vienna (Austria)
Kaffeemodul
Würzburg
